God Speaks to Us Through Situations and Circumstances

Devotion – How God Speaks to Us

“God speaks to us through His Word, His Spirit, and through people. But He also communicates with us through the circumstances or situations He places us in.

In 1983, I served as an ambassador for the Black College Fund of the United Methodist Church. That summer, I traveled throughout the North Central United States, advocating for continued support of the Black Colleges historically related to the U.M. Church. During that journey, the Lord placed me in situation after situation, confirming in my heart His call to ministry.

As I entered homes, businesses, churches, and other spaces, I could hear God speaking to me, impressing upon me the call to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Each encounter and circumstance became a divine message, guiding me toward His purpose for my life.

Yes, God speaks to us through situations and circumstances. He may be trying to communicate with you through what is happening in your marriage, at your job, or in the general situations of your life. Take time to prayerfully consider what is unfolding in your life and listen closely to discern if the Lord is trying to get something across to you.”
