Devotion: December 2012
“During a Wednesday evening prayer meeting, the Spirit of God impressed upon those present the urgent need for the Neely family to engage in corporate prayer. While this is not a new realization, the Spirit spoke fervently, reminding us of the critical importance of gathering in prayer.
Even Satan understands the power of prayer, which is why he works tirelessly to prevent God’s people from assembling together. Our adversary often fosters a spirit of slumber and apathy, causing us to neglect the vital act of approaching God’s throne in dedicated and consecrated prayer. Until we take prayer seriously, our lives will not align with the Lord’s will for us.
Neely, we must come together as God’s people, calling on His name with sincerity and fervor. The devil is attacking our homes, families, children, and marriages, but our most powerful weapon against his schemes is prayer. Sadly, this weapon is often neglected, leaving us vulnerable to the enemy’s devices.
As I write this on Thursday morning, I sense that because Satan knows his time is short, his attacks against God’s people will intensify. Only those who dedicate themselves to personal and corporate prayer will overcome his schemes. We can no longer be sluggish in this area—Satan is playing for keeps. Let all who understand the stakes rise from spiritual sleep and approach the throne of grace in prayer daily, both individually and together as a community of faith.”
Summary
This devotion emphasizes the urgency and importance of prayer, both personal and corporate. It warns of Satan’s tactics to hinder God’s people through apathy and spiritual slumber, highlighting the devil’s attacks on families and homes. The message calls believers to rise from spiritual complacency, recognizing prayer as the most powerful weapon against the enemy. By committing to consistent and heartfelt prayer, both privately and together, believers can overcome the adversary’s schemes and align their lives with God’s will.
